What is the AI Community by TELUS International?
The AI Community is a crowd of remote workers who provide services to TELUS International AI Data Solutions customers. They help these customers collect, enhance, train, translate and localize their content to build better AI models.
TELUS International AI Data Solutions came about with the acquisition of Lionbridge AI, completed in March 2021. It focuses on data annotation/labeling of text, images, video and audio to improve AI systems. The TELUS International AI Community has over 1 million members working online from home around the world.
AI Community jobs and opportunities
TELUS International divides its AI Community jobs and opportunities into four major areas:
- Data annotation/labeling
- Data enrichment
- Online rating
- Online maps and data analysis
Data annotation
Data annotation (aka data labeling) jobs let you create and annotate various types of data. The result of your work is used to train artificial intelligence in many different industries.
As a data annotator at TELUS International, you may encounter tasks that involve labeling images, words, voice recordings, among other types of data. Training is provided to allow you to tackle each specific kind of task.
Data enrichment
Data enrichment is all about appending or enhancing collected data with relevant context. The result of your work will help in the development of AI applications like chatbots, virtual assistants and search engines.
In data enrichment projects at TELUS International, you may encounter tasks that involve transcribing images and audio, digitizing written documents, among others. Training is provided to all admitted workers.
Online rating
Online rating jobs at TELUS International, such as the AI Community Surfer role, generally involve evaluating and rating online advertisements, social media content or web search results. The result of this work is used to improve the services and algorithms of some of the biggest tech companies in the world.
In online rating projects, you may review online search results, videos, images and ads, among other types of rating tasks. Training and guidelines are provided.
Online maps and data analysis
Online maps and data analysis is mostly about determining the relevance and accuracy of online map data. The result of this work is used to improve or help in the development of AI applications that rely on geographic data.
In online maps and data analysis tasks at TELUS International, it is important that you, as an evaluator, leverage your knowledge of local culture, local geography, social media, and current affairs. You will receive training and detailed guidance to work on these projects.
How much do TELUS International AI Community jobs pay?
For jobs that pay per hour, the average hourly pay for TELUS AI Community jobs generally ranges from 8 to 15 USD per hour. Depending on the country where the AI Community member is located, the hourly rate can be slightly lower or slightly higher. The rate of pay can also vary by project.
For jobs that pay per task, there is no flat rate as these tasks can be completely different from each other. For example, you can get tasks that are relatively easy and take 5 minutes to complete and tasks that are more complex and require much more time and effort to finish.
On average, you can expect to earn anything between $300 and $2000 per month from AI Community jobs by TELUS International. The final amount will depend on the number and types of projects you get, your country of residence, and the workload and availability of tasks.
How to become a member of the AI Community by TELUS International
To join TELUS remote AI Community, you need to set up an account by completing the registration form on the signup page. Once your account is set up, you can use the filters on its AI Careers Portal to check if there are open positions in your country.
If open positions are available, make sure to click on the jobs to learn what they are about and what are the main requirements for each of them. If you think you're a good fit for a specific job, click on the green button Apply Now at the top or bottom of the job page.
Even if you don't find a job that suits you, you can still join the AI Community to be informed when future remote opportunities become available.
How to prepare for the AI Community jobs exams
Depending on the position you are applying for, you may be required to pass one or more exams before you are approved to work.
To prepare for these exams, make sure to learn the project guidelines and follow the instructions provided by the recruitment team. You will likely receive these instructions by email if and when you are selected for the qualification tests.
If by the date of the exam you feel you are not sufficiently prepared, it is usually okay to ask for a rescheduling once. It is always better to postpone the exam date and take it when you are ready than to rush to the exam only to fail.
If you are applying for a Google search quality evaluator position, you can take advantage of Search Evaluator Academy courses to boost your preparation. At TELUS International AI, the Google search quality evaluator role is usually known as Internet Assessor (not to be confused with Internet Ads Assessor, which is a different position).
