Spanish-English Interpreter (US Gov. Project)

Lionbridge is seeking self-starting freelance Over-the-Phone Interpreters for ongoing projects to provide live interpretations for phone calls into the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS-DHS).

Over-the-Phone Interpreters for Lionbridge are responsible for handling calls on-demand to correctly identify and provide meaning in conversations between speakers of two different languages.

What You Will Do

  • Accept and take ownership of on-demand incoming calls and conversations, providing two-way interpretations.
  • Identify the meaning of conversations across two different language types while remaining current, courteous, and professional on sensitive subjects across differing cultures and locations.
  • Receive projects typically presented in the form of three-way calls, lasting roughly 10-30 minutes each during regular U.S. business hours.
  • Receive training in industry terminology as well as common procedures and practices and apply this knowledge in your role while on calls.

To Be Successful You Will Have

  • Advanced abilities in Spanish and English (spoken).
  • Exceptional memory retention, note-taking, and communication skills in the appropriate language(s).
  • The ability to complete and pass a language assessment in the languages you will be assigned to.
  • Prior experience in Interpretation or Language Services is a plus, but not required.
  • Prior experience with court or government live-interpretation is nice to have but not required.

Requirements for DHS Project Consideration

  • U.S. Citizenship, or Permanent Resident Green Card, Required.
  • You must have resided in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years.
  • Willingness to complete a government background and fingerprint check.
  • Willingness to complete DHS required paperwork and Electronic Questionnaire for Investigations Processing (EQIP) Questionnaire.
