Lead UX Writer
The Wikimedia Foundation seeks an experienced UX Copywriter to collaborate with Product Design and Product Management teams. The role focuses on creating a content strategy and guidelines for UX writing in products using augmentation, AI, and machine learning. The UX Writer will simplify complex concepts, ensuring clarity and consistency across Wikimedia’s global product portfolio.
Location: Remote (working hours must include 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM UTC)
Duration: 2–3 months, project-based contract
Hours: Part-time / By project
Key Responsibilities:
- Craft clear, concise, and compelling UX copy to simplify complex AI/ML concepts.
- Collaborate with UX Designers, Product Managers, and researchers to refine copy through testing and feedback.
- Develop UX copywriting guidelines that are easy to understand and apply.
- Incorporate accessibility standards and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Create copy that is simple, translatable, and suitable for a global audience.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate copy guidelines into user flows.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 3+ years of UX writing experience on design teams.
- Strong ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and internationalization best practices.
- Self-motivated with a passion for evolving UX writing practices.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Working with translators for multilingual content.
- Background in education, publishing, or free knowledge communities.
- Familiarity with Open Source communities or multilingual audiences.
Deliverables:
- Content audit of augmentation use in existing products.
- Creation of a content strategy and copy guidelines for augmentation.
- Pilot application of guidelines to user flows.
